about

(Listen for free or download for $10 if you want to support future projects)

These tracks were recorded and mixed in 1999 at Makeshift Studios in Jamaica Plain MA, by Daron Burke. Intended as drum-machine-backed solo demos, I kept inviting friends over to the studio to play on the tracks, and those demos eventually became this album.

Mastering was done by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering in Newton, MA. At that time the project was called 'Aqueduct' and the album's name was "The Silent Wheel".

It was never officially released, but various demos were sent around the world and it was played by college radio stations in the U.S. and Europe.

The track "Indie Pop Song" was released by Deep Elm Records on a 2004 compilation called "This Is Indie Rock."

After the album was made the album personnel and other friends formed a band named Aqueduct. However, discovery of an up-and-coming band already named Aqueduct led to the first of several name changes. We eventually settled on "The Blind King" (suggested by guitarist Kevin Turbitt, in honor of the Rhode Island window-treatment store of the same name).

The album also went through various name changes. For this re-release, I stuck to tradition and renamed it yet again, after the drum machine I used: a then-obscure, now-cult German device called the Jomox XBase 09 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JoMoX). The long-lost track "Shoe" is included here for the first time, and the tracks have been re-ordered to reflect my current preferences.
The Blind King played a variety of shows over the next 5 or 6 years, mostly around Boston and Providence. Live band members included: David Sakowski (bass and keys), Elana Joy (vocals), Eric Krauter (trumpet), Ned Armsby (drums), Beth Daly (vocals), Andy Santospago (cello), Kevin Turbitt (guitar), and Chris Braiotta (accordion).

In 2004 members of the live band made a new album at Q Division Studios in Somerville, MA, recorded and mixed by Rafi Sofer. "'Til You're Gone"is available on Spotify: open.spotify.com/album/4mQWZJB5hiWbI4rh8W0zQi

I have a bunch of new songs... I've been recording myself... maybe there'll be a third album sometime soon.

Please enjoy this throwback to some pre-Millenium post-Rock bedroom-style DIY Americana-Indie-Something-or-Other. Listen for free, or download MP3s for money. Proceeds go towards future endeavors.
